This
wonderful set of 40 Gladys Leach 'Pen and Ink' drawings is a visual
depiction of many famous Dublin buildings and landmarks, the set
includes 39 landscape style postcards and 1 portrait style, the images
were painted in 1974.
Gladys began her career making slides for the Savoy Cinema, where she worked for a time. There, she painted words to songs onto glass and they were projected onto a large screen. A man called Fred Bridgeman played the organ which rose up out of the floor and the audience would sing along.
Gladys trained in Cork's school of art and set up a graphics business on Patrick Street, where she produced artwork for businesses of all shapes and sizes. While there, she designed the world-famous "Cork Dry Gin" label. She produced Christmas cards which were very popular and were distributed worldwide. During this time, she also managed to raise seven children. Sell out exhibitions were testimony to her work and commissions were always in demand.
Her work is highly
collectible and these Dublin Scenes were painted
in 1974 making them part of this wonderful vintage collection. Each scene is
now from a by-gone era of Irish life and is still a timeless piece of art.
